Liz is the author of three published novels: The Words of Every Song (Broadway Books/Random House, 2007), Heft (W.W. Norton, 2012), and The Unseen World (W.W. Norton, 2016). She has won many awards for her writing, including the 2014 Rome Prize in Literature, the 2012 Medici Book Club Prize, and Philadelphia's 2012 Athenaeum Literary Award. Her books have been widely recognized. Heft was longlisted for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and was included on several "Best of 2012" lists, including NPR's and the Apple iBookstore's. Foreign rights were sold in five countries. The Unseen World has thus far been sold in three countries and placed on "Best of 2016" lists by The New Yorker, the BBC, Publishers Weekly, and Audible.com, among others. 

Liz's novels have been reviewed in national and international publications. Louisa Hall called The Unseen World “fiercely intelligent” in her review in The New York Times; Susan Coll called it “enthralling . . . ethereal and elegant . . . a rich and convincing period piece” in her review in the Washington Post. Of Heft, The New Yorker wrote, “Moore’s character’s are lovingly drawn . . . a truly original voice”; The Boston Globe wrote “Moore’s writing is clear, persuasive, and totally engaging.”

Her short stories and personal essays have appeared in venues such as The New York Times, Tin House, Narrative Magazine, and Lit Hub. 

EDITOR:

Liz began her career as first a freelance editor for companies like McGraw-Hill and then as an in-house editorial assistant for a small press at an art museum. There, she learned how to skillfully edit, copy edit, and proofread.

After deciding to get her MFA, she continued to work as a freelance editor, taking on copy editing work for scientific publications and providing personal consultations to creative writers seeking editorial assistance with their manuscripts. 

Liz is currently Associate Fiction Editor for The Maine Review; as such, she solicits and edits fiction for two issues a year.

TEACHER:

While she was earning her MFA in Fiction at CUNY-Hunter College in New York City, Liz was one of two students selected to teach undergraduate creative writing workshops. After graduating, she was awarded the University of Pennsylvania's ArtsEdge Residency. There, she taught an undergraduate course in Fiction and Personal Narrative. From 2009-2017, she was an Assistant and then Associate Professor of Writing at Philadelphia's Holy Family University, where she taught composition, fiction writing, nonfiction writing, and multi-genre creative writing courses. In 2017, she was brought on as Writer-in-Residence for the MFA Program in Creative Writing at Temple University. She is a dedicated and passionate teacher and is deeply familiar with the techniques and practices that foster excellent discussion inside a workshop and excellent writing outside it.
